"China is a sleeping giant, long may it sleep, for when it wakes, it will shake the world."
Napoleon's words have never been so relevant, as in our day and age. In a two-day China-Africa summit that began this morning in Egypt, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabo pledged $10 billion dollars in new loans to African nations. It has also pledged to contribute to over 100 new clean energy projects around Africa. While Chinese assistance to the African continent began in the 1950's, it is making an effort to strengthen those ties, particularly with Egypt... China's reasoning for expanding its ties and aid may not be so clear.
While China's influence expands abroad, it marked the 60th anniversary of communism with a military parade back at home.
On a lighter note, the Walt Disney Company is opening up its first theme-park in mainland China. Atleast the Chinese are trying to enjoy themselves as China takes its place alongside the United States as a global superpower.
